This is a demonstrative example for discrete compliance that topology optimization is wont to give. When restricted to a plane, the gap on the right side should reduce when the handles on the left are pressed together. But when it is not restricted to a plane, the mechanism simply raises out of the plane. Its narrow flexures are its weakest portions. This shows how not to design a compliant mechanism.
