This compliant gripper is an answer to why most compliant mechanisms have only straight segments and not curved, a question posed to Prof. G. K. Ananthasuresh by an undergraduate at IIT-Bombay. An undergraduate intern designed the curved segments to minimize the tilt of the free segments as they move together upon pressing the flat edge in the middle to the left.
