10 points
For a given load p(x), determine the cross-section area of an axially
loaded bar such that its volume is minimized and the stress anywhere is
less than the tensile strength St and more than the compressive
strength Sc. The bar is of length L and is made of a material
with Young's modulus E. Write down the problem statement, necessary
conditions, and discuss the nature of the solution.

For L = 1, E = 150E9, St = 2E6, Sc = 8E6, and p(x) =
sin(2*x*pi/L), give the complete solution of the problem 1.
