Minimize the volume of material used for given mean compliance of an axially loaded bar. Use the weak form for the govenring equation. Write down the necessary conditions and the boundary conditions for a minimum of this problem.
  2. 10 points
For L = 2 m, rho = 7800 kg/m3, E = 210 GPa, Al = 0.0025 m^2, Au = 0.09 m^2, V* = 0.12 m^3, design the area profile of the stiffest bar under self weight. The bar stands upright on the ground. So, it is fixed at the ground and is free at the top. The gravity load is in the downward direction as usual. Draw the plots of area profile and the corresponding deformation and strain.
