Points: 40
Additional points for work that is beyond instructor's expectation!
Look up Homework #1 of 2010 offering of this course and the solution posted there to know what is meant by "beyond instructor's expectation".

  1. 10 points
In a room of 30 m x 10 m x 10 m size, a lizard is on the centre line of a 10 m x 10 m wall at distance 1 m below the roof. A fly is on the centre line of the opposite wall at a distance 1 m above the floor. What is the minimum distance the lizard has to travel to get to the fly? The lizard can move on all the six surfaces. Sketch the required path. (From a puzzle-book that is in press)
  2. 10 points
If you were the fly in the previous problem and want to be as far away from the lizard as possible, where will you be on any wall, the ceiling, or floor of the room? Sketch the path.
  3. 20 points
Now, find two points on any surface of the room that are farthest from each other than any other pair of points. Sketch the path between the two points.
