Research Grants

Our Department has been actively engaged in fundamental and applied research, sponsored by Government funding agencies as well as public and private sector industries, national R&D organizations and multi-national corporations. Its faculty has undertaken numerous research and consultancy projects which cater to both our national needs and global developments.

The following are the windows at IISc through which externally funded research are routed.

Centre for Sponsored Schemes and Projects (CSSP)

The Centre for Sponsored Schemes and Projects handles the administrative logistics of projects sponsored by Government funding agencies.  Research funding is obtained by the Department faculty from various funding agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Mines, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Aeronautical Research & Development Board (ARDB), Department of Atomic Energy, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Society for Innovation and Development (SID)

The Society for Innovation and Development was founded in the year 1991 and is registered under the Karnataka Societies Act. It has a symbiotic relationship with IISc and primarily provides access to the intellectual and infrastructural resources of IISc. It undertakes research and development projects based on individual or joint proposals from the faculty of IISc in collaboration with public and private sector industries, multi-nationals and international organizations. Such organizations directly enter into an agreement through SID with an intention to collaborate with IISc faculty to sponsor research projects. Through SID, research funding has been obtained by the Department faculty from various companies and enterprises such as General Motors,  TATA Motors, Boeing, Pratt & Whitney, TVS, Sundaram Clayton, Mahindra & Mahindra, Faurecia, ABB, Triveni Turbines, TOTAL, Bosch, Siemens, EATON Technologies, GAIL, BHEL and HPCL.

Centre for Scientific and Industrial Consultancy (CSIC)

The Centre for Scientific and Industrial Consultancy was established in 1975 with the sole purpose to strengthen, promote and streamline the interaction between academia and industry. CSIC is the window through which IISc faculty members undertake consultancy exercises which can be broadly classified as: product design and development, process design and development, system design and software development, technology transfer, technical advice and guidance, testing and evaluation, diagnostics, proof checking and system studies.
