Farewell ME 2021 Batch

“A Farewell is necessary before you can meet again, and meeting again after moments or lifetimes is certain for those who are friends.”
-Richard Bach

Continuing the yearly tradition of wishing the graduating batch a final goodbye, the mechanical engineering department organized a Farewell on 1 August 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the farewell was organized in an online mode. Despite being an online farewell, it was attended in good numbers by the graduating students, their juniors, and the faculty members. The event started with the address from the former and current department chair, Prof. G. K. Ananthasuresh and Prof. Raghuraman N. Govardhan, respectively. It was followed by a round of introduction of the Graduating students by their juniors.

The next session of the event was an open mic for the faculty members, wherein they wished good luck to the outgoing students for their future endeavours. The event was concluded with an open mic for the graduating students, wherein they talked about their experience in the college and showed gratitude towards the faculty members for guiding them all along during their stay in the department.

Farewell to graduating students in 2020

I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what hurts me the most is not taking a moment to say good-bye.

(Life of Pi)

So, there we were, the faculty, staff and students, in the middle of a pandemic, bidding farewell to the the graduating batch of 2020, as they move on to greener pastures. The situation being very unusual, a physical farewell was not possible. Therefore, the department hosted an online event on Zoom platform on July 24th, 2020, from 5 PM to 7:15 PM. The first-year M.Tech students organized it. The event began with an address by both the current and former Chairs, Prof. G. K. Ananthasuresh and Prof. Pradip Dutta. It was followed by an introduction of all the graduating students. The advisers too, spoke about the journey with their students. The next event was an ‘Open Mic for Faculty’. All the faculty members congratulated the graduating batch, and wished them well for their future. A quiz, ‘Who’s the best adviser-student pair?!’ was conducted next. It consisted of audio, visual and annotation type rounds. The event was concluded with an ‘Open Mic for Students’, in which the graduating students took the opportunity to thank their advisers and all the faculty for a wonderful journey in ME @ IISc.
